Hug An Author, Write A Novel

November is National Novel Writing Month &
November 1 is National Authors' Day

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30. Think it can't be done??? Ha! Think again! In November 2006, there were 79,000 would-be authors who registered through the site -- 13,000 of them completed 50,000 words! Those who finished started the month off as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away at the end of the month as NOVELISTS. Yippee for them! The writing fun begins on November 1st, so visit http://www.nanowrimo.org/ to sign up. Also, to kick your excitement up a notch -- get really involved in the NANOWRIMO community by visiting the site's myriad of forums and attending your community's NANOWRIMO kick-off party. Best of luck to all participants!

National Authors' Day was first observed in 1929 by the General Federation of Women's Clubs. It was made an "official" day of celebration by the US Department of Commerce in 1949. It's commemorated every year on November 1st. The resolution for Authors' Day states: "by celebrating an Authors' Day as a nation, we would not only show patriotism, loyalty, and appreciation of the men and women who have made American literature possible, but would also encourage and inspire others to give of themselves in making a better America."

So on Thursday, November 1st, honor those who throughout history have made "American literature possible" by reading, buying or discussing a book, encouraging existing and would-be authors, and/or giving your favorite author (if you know one) a hug. I guarantee you -- they can use it! :-)

Hey lady
I do plan on participating. I missed the mark by three thousand words. The book I am currently working on to get released is the one I wrote from the contest. Are you participating, if so add me as a buddy?

I know of a couple of people participating this year. I think we both know of one. btw first time over on your blog- congratulations writer! I hadn't read your book but I'm hoping to find a copy to read it soon. You know what they say about an author's first book, their personality is all over the pages.
